Unarmed US Marines foil suspected terrorist attack

Post by LSUTiger »

Chance favors the prepared. Making good people helpless doesn't make bad people harmless.
There is no safety in denial. When seconds count the Police are only minutes away.
Sometimes I really wish a lawyer would chime in and clear things up. Do we have any lawyers on this forum?

Belgian journalist Marin Buxant Tweeted that the US Marines were on leave in Brussels when they spotted the man and followed him on the train. When the suspect went into the toilet, the Marines recognised the sound of a weapon being armed and decided to act immediately.
These Marines weren't just sitting and jumped into a fight when startled. They were situationally aware and went in the offensive. Good for them! :patriot:

Thank God those 2 Marines were there. How many people would have died if it were not for their training and quick thinking kicking in? Situational awareness indeed! I'm anxious to see the full analysis of what went down.

Apparently they were not Marines. One was in the Airforce and the other was in the National guard.

Yes, one USAF, on NG, one American civilian, one Brit civilian:
The Americans – Airman 1st Class Spencer Stone, and his childhood friend Spec. Alek Skarlatos, who just returned from a deployment in Afghanistan -- are being lauded as heroes along with a third American friend and a British consultant who teamed up to subdue the assailant. But European leaders called for swift measures to improve security so that they would not need to rely on luck to thwart a shooting that could quickly have become as bloody as the January terrorist attacks in Paris that claimed 20 lives, including the three gunmen.

They were Americans, once again defending French soil and French people. :patriot:

Indeed Oldgringo!

Reminds me of the first few minutes of Saving Private Ryan as they are getting ready to unload on Omaha Beach:

Thirty seconds! Clear the ramp! ;-)

Well gee, it was all just a big mistake.

The Morrocan guy who was on an Islamist watch list in three countries was just homeless and hungry and just happened to find an AK (and nine magazines and 200 rounds of ammo, and apparently a pistol and boxcutter) laying in the park near the train station in Brussels, and just happened to decide to rob a train full of "rich people" to buy a little hummus and pommes frites. According to his lawyer, he's shocked, shocked, that anyone could mistake him for a terrorist.

Hey, it could happen.
