This has me wondering, did the robber have his fingers on the trigger and accidentally fired? Or did he think the man was reaching for a gun? Either way, he's guilty of murder.

Strange... The way that reads, its like he demanded money/wallet but shot him and then ran away without collecting said item(s)...
Maybe this wasn't as random as it would appear. Just saying - things like this do happen, hits/murders disguised as muggings gone bad.

I suspect the man reached for his wallet, either too quickly or the BG was a novice and was unaware his command to "give me your money" would result in movement by the victim or the BG had his finger on the trigger and was so inexperienced at firing a gun he did not know how much finger pressure it took to fire the gun.
I suspect most BG's do not get range practice and their first time firing a gun is during a robbery.
