Eligibility question

Post by AntiIdiocy »

Good evening, fellas, I have a somewhat lengthy question about my chl eligibility if anyone can help it would be very appreciated. Long story short, I got into some trouble for a fight a long time ago. I was kind of attacked by 2 guys my age at the time and ended up handling them pretty well. And it landed me with this afterwards. I have a misdemeanor battery charge (2 counts) from 11 years ago that I served probation/conditional discharge for. In my agreement the line stating I am not allowed to have firearms or draft weapons is crossed out as I am an avid hunter and that allowed me to apply for reinstatement of my FOID card. And that part of probation terms did not apply to me. I was charged with a felony originally, but it was plead down to a misdemeanor a of battery. The felony was placed as nolo prosequi, while I took a guilty on the battery counts. This occurred in Illinois. My final disposition of case was in June of 2005. I can purchase firearms, however, I usually get delayed for a day or two. Am I able to get a concealed carry license in Texas? I appreciate your time and any advice/help offered. Thanks guys.

Since it was a misdemeanor conviction over 5 years ago it looks like you can get a license unless
there is more to it than I know about. You will have to declare the record to the DPS. It will cause
delays and they will want your conviction records.

That is everything. Wouldn't do me any good to not be 100% truthful. I have 8 pages of documents supporting and showing that it was misdemeanor battery(2 counts) and I was placed on probation and then conditional discharge. Paid all restitution, fines and community service ahead of schedule and was released a little early from that to move down here and finish school. I intend to upload all of those documents with my application as well. I listed the arrest and everything on the application too. I just haven't sent off yet because I wanted to be 100% sure. I appreciate your response.
