The DPS Firearms Range is owned by the state and isn't on the "restricted" list, so it can't be 30.06/30.07 posted. The information I received regarding the class states that "handguns must be stored in a closed carrying case/bag" but that is referring to the proficiency demonstration at the range; it doesn't apply to the class, at least not the way it is stated.
For those who have taken the class, are any instructions given regarding carrying during the first two days of class?

Re: Carrying during the Instructor's class
There was no discussion of carrying "in class" when I took the instructors course. Since getting my CHL, I carry everywhere I can legally do so. The instructor course was no different. I carried, as I'm sure did many others.
As for the range, weapons should only be handled as directed by the range master, so for safety's sake, qualification guns should be unloaded and encased as you come and go. Assuming you also wish to carry a gun that you're not going to use to qualify, the regulations concerning carrying apply the same at the range as they do everywhere else.
My view only; IANAL.

Re: Carrying during the Instructor's class
When I went through my instructor's class in 2014, an informal survey showed that about half of the class was carrying on that particular day (2nd day of classroom instruction in Georgetown).

Re: Carrying during the Instructor's class
When I took the class, it was indicated that concealed means concealed, and concealed handguns should stay concealed. There were actually a few in my class who were getting their CHL as part of the instructor class, and they were instructed to keep theirs locked either in their car (a number of vehicles were broken into during the week), or in their hotel rooms.
