CBS-DFW reports that Dallas City Hall is preparing residents and police for OC. They urge people to only call the police if the carrier unholsters the firearm, appears intoxicated, or is committing a crime.

However, there's this uninformed tidbit. Sigh.
Holders are prohibited from carrying in certain locations such as worship centers, amusement parks, and governmental meetings subject to the Texas Open Meetings Act.

Great. How many 911 calls are there going to be at 9:15 Sunday after 1/1 with everyone going to church?

I'd regard anyone who showed up for regular Sunday worship while open carrying as having questionable judgment at best, even where not prohibited.

Some major church organizations have recommended that member churches prohibit open carry, but they have not taken a position on concealed carry.

I think that's reasonable.

I don't think 30.07 signs will be necessary even for churches that follow this guidance because the rare person who showed up with an openly carried handgun could be discretely given verbal notice to cover it or leave it in the car by an usher or greeter.

I agree with no OC in church; however, the United Methodist Church's official, written, Praise the Lord, position on guns is anti-guns everywhere. Once that starts spewing from the local pulpit, I'll probably become a Deist...or something.

I personally know of some UMC churches that apparently aren't following that guidance and actually have very robust active shooter deterrence, prevention, and response programs which include concealed carry as a deliberate part of their planning. They're far and away ahead of most business organizations.

I would really be surprised/dismayed to see guns become an issue in our small town church but it is a no-seeum lurking in the closet.
