Anyone EDC Two Pistols?

Post by BCGlocker »

Lately, I have been thinking about all the massive shootings, I am a bit motivated to carry a BUG. I am considering IWB G23 (my EDC now) plus a G27 in a cross draw holster. Is there anyone other than LEO already doing so? If so, please share with us what is your primary and what is your BUG and how you carry both.

I did it one day.

Glock 19 plus a fully loaded spare magazine and a Ruger SP101 .357 magnum.

Too much iron!

So, now I keep a 9mm carbine in the truck for immediate access.

Thought about a BUG, but decided to go with a reload instead. Much lighter.
Considering a second reload...

I already EDC 2-3 G22 mags in addition to my G23 mag in the gun. My motivation is having a second pistol (G27) that uses same magazines as a backup or have a pistol for someone else to use.

I understand the motivation, but my aging back can't handle it.

I'd be better off losing a few pounds so I could run faster. Likely more beneficial/practical.

Back when I carried 1911s, I sometimes kept a BUG on my person - typically a lightweight revolver. But pretty much ever since I have been carrying double stack polymer guns, I haven't bothered with a bug. If a G17 or XDM-45 jams (which isn't that likely), a tap & rack or a magazine swap is just as fast (maybe faster) than reaching down into a pocket or boot to retrieve a revolver. And it is just a matter of swapping out a spent mag for a full one, it is still faster than retrieving a revolver from pocket or boot. And a fresh 19 round magazine beats a 5 round revolver every day and twice on Sunday.

It's not that I think a BUG is a bad idea.......it's not. It's more that if you carry the right primary gun, a BUG is going to be unnecessary in most cases. The ONE instance I can think of where a BUG is a for sure advantage is in the event that a bad guy disarms you of your primary gun without being aware of the BUG.

Given my particular build, age, physical condition, etc., there's a limit both to how much I'm able to carry, and how much I'm willing to carry. In my book, my primary pistol IS my BUG. My primary GUN is the long gun in the car (or in my house), which I don't carry around on my person. The pistol is for fighting my way to it.

But I'm not saying my way is the best way for everybody. It's just the best for me, after having carried a BUG off and on for years.

Sounds like you might as well carry one of those mags with a gun wrapped around it.

I don't carry a BUG, but I have considered carrying my shield in addition to my G19.

I used to carry two guns usually on the belt and one in the left pocket. My back isn't as good as it used to be though so now I generally just carry on my belt.

I carry my Shield as primary and LCR as my BUG. The LCR is usually in a Remora, cross draw, or in a conceal vest. I will be trying out a shoulder rig ( Remora ) with the Shield on left side and LCR on right :)

I carry 2 8 rd mags for the Shield in a Fobus dual mag holster. If I'm wearing the conceal vest with 3,000 pockets, I'll carry a speed strip or 2, and a loaded moon clip as well. If it's just my outback conceal vest, no extra ammo for the LCR

ETA: If I'm just out and about on the property, usually just the Shield is with me, one extra mag. Sometimes the LCR when I'm wearing the Outback vest while working.

:iagree:
Actually I never considered a second gun. My decision has been whether to carry extra mags.

My wife has a CHL and she carries when she goes out by herself, BUT if we go out together, she makes me carry 2 pistols because I'm carrying FOR her. If anything goes down, I'm supposed to toss her the 2nd piece. That way, she can wear more form fitting clothing. LOL.

Yes. I carry an LCR as a BUG from time to time. Not every day, though.
