Another increase in ammo prices?

This is from a BT newsletter that I received today:


More bad news from the ammunition manufacturers—they have already announced another price increase across the board of 15% that will take affect on September 1, 2007. There will be a 25% increase on .223 ammunition as well. The steady price increases are due to the growing shortages of raw materials which leads to higher prices for them that are needed to produce the ammunition, as well as the demand steadily increasing over the past few years and the large military use over seas. Unfortunately, we cannot control these prices and just have to adapt and change with each one that occurs.

I got the same email...........ridiculous. Someone is filling their pockets and blaming it on raw materials and the war. I don't buy it for one minute. Look at Exxon who made record PROFITS this year!!!! I just drove from Carrollton to Mesquite to take an outer box belonging to a Beretta I sold (I forgot the box at home when I delivered the gun) and it cost me $12 in gasoline. Pretty expensive outer box. If they hadn't needed it right awasy (reselling the gun) I could have mailed it cheaper!!!!

LOL its not all that bad.. People in this part of the country are making good money working in the refinerys and lately they have been hiring. They cant seem to get enough refinery and plant workers. Prices and shortages are causing the Iranians shortages and gaslines. Them suckers are burning down their country. Silverlining ... clouds and all that stuff. Besides if people are still willing to pay $4.50 for a stinkin' cup of $0.30 cent coffee There must be enough money floating around to buy gasoline and bullets.

I think I'm gonna go buy some ammo today and head to the range to make some holes in the paper.

Buying/selling ammo has become more lucrative than buying savings bonds. Amazing how prices are going up. It's like another form of gun control. If they can't control the guns, they'll control the ammo.......

Sorry, but this doesn't pass the sniff test. If competitors announce price increases to take place on the same date, it would be price fixing.

You can look up commodity metal prices on the Internet. They have been going up for years, several times higher than they were two years ago. This isn't a conspiracy; it's mostly due to increased demand from China.

I dislike price increases as much as anyone, but I treasure the right and opportunity to buy ammo without asking permission or filling out forms.

Vertical price restraints (as in that ruling) and horizontal price restraints (which Jim was alluding too) are very different animals. Horizontal price restraints are still very much illegal, and this has been repeatedly and recently upheld in court.

Jim...I saw a copy of this same notice a week or two ago, posted by another gunshop owner on another forum. Apparently the notice itself came from Federal, and applies specifically to all of their brands. (Fed, CCI, Speer, etc.) Whether other manufacturers are raising their prices as well, I don't know, but I wouldn't be surprised if they take the opportunity.

Winchester and CCI Blazers seem to be the lowest right now. All manufacturers have the same underlying costs, so I would expect their prices to go up eventually.

Went to Wally World to grab some more Blazer Brass 45ACP. It's now $11.97 per box. Up $1.00 from just 2 weeks ago when I bought my last batch.

Just ordered another 2k of .45 from ammoman, just to be on the saafe side. Should last thru the winter.

I have never found Ammoman.com to be competitive. I hope you got a good deal on what you bought.

I looked at .45acp just now. The cheapest thing they had was Wolf steel at $129/500. The cheapest brass cased was $169/500.

At Natchez, the Wolf is $10.49/50 and you can get brass cased Blazer for $11.99/50.

I have Ammoman bookmarked on my list of ammo suppliers, but they have never been the cheapest, seldom even competitive.

By the time I pay tax it is competitive. 289 for a case of factory speer with no tax and free shipping. I am avoiding Wolf now as it has my guns filthy as hell. Speer doesnt do that. Never heard of Natchez, will check them out. CTD is no where near competitive after tax and shipping.
