(CBS 42) AUSTIN Austin police have identified the victim of a murder in a Northeast Austin apartment complex Tuesday morning.
Michael Wayne Adams, 21, was killed during what police believe was a robbery after he and a friend had car trouble. It happened at 4:17 a.m. in front of the Travis Station apartment complex at 6600 Ed Bluestein Blvd., close to Loyola Lane (map).
Police responded to a shots fired call, and when they arrived they found Adams dead from mulitple gun shot wounds in the street next to his car, directly in front of the entrance to the apartments.
Police said they believe Adams and his friend were having car trouble when two other men approached them to try to rob them, and fired shots at them. Adams was struck and his friend who was with him fled through the apartment complex. Shots were fired at the second victim from one or both suspects. The second victim was not injured.
Witnesses claim to have heard at least eight or nine shots being fired.
Police are currently looking for a suspect.
We will post more information as it becomes available.
Very upsetting, I drive by here daily for work. And It could easily be me or my wife with car trouble. Its certainly a bad nieghborhood. Many of my co-workers go to Jack in the box (right next door) for lunch break.
