For it or against it, no matter which way you choose to carry CC or OC, OC is here along with whatever immediate consequences (increase 30.06 signage) and long term effects (I think they will be positive in terms of future pro 2A legislation as this new awareness helps people get over hoplophobia and the OC "hysteria") that remains to be seen.
1995 CC passed, sky didn't fall, 2015 OC passed, sky didn't fall, ......................maybe 2017 No off limits areas for LTC, sky won't fall.
For better or worse the cat's out of the bag regarding signage.
Instead of beating a dead horse about increased 06 signage, why don't we re-focus our energy on educating those who are willing to listen and get some of those 30.06 signs to come down, recruit more people to our cause/help new gun owners and continuing to advance our pro 2A goals.
And to a few folks I've heard saying we should repeal OC, I say that won't do any good now, the cats out of the bag already. Those who don't want CC will still not want CC. So enjoy having the OC option ( a 2A right restored, sort of, as long as you ask the government for permission) for what ever it's worth to you, even if its just not having to worry about exposure while CC.

Sometimes I really wish a lawyer would chime in and clear things up. Do we have any lawyers on this forum?

Re: Making the best of open carry
it's more about the freedom from "must be absolutely concealed" paranoia that is the real benefit to the OC laws, now that we don't have to worry about exposure or changing our mode of dress to fit the gun it may encourage some that did not CC or only did it in limited circumstances to carry more.
Personally I am about 50/50 CC to OC, doing whatever I feel based on where I am going and what the weather is like so far.
OC allows for more secure holster choices as most actual retention holsters did not lend well to concealed carry at all.
the 30.07 signs really don't affect me, I don't frequent the locations that actively came out with the restrictions- HEB, Whataburger, Chipotle etc. I didn't go to before so no real changes for me.

I agree that it's here and we shouldn't go back. I agree that some of the new 30.06 signs will come down.
I disagree that many people will get used to it and accept it in ever-broader applications, especially in the cities and suburbs. For every one of those that do, there are 10 that are even more motivated to organize and stop us on all fronts because they're aware of the guns that used to be out of sight / out of mind. (Statistic fabricated on the spot.) These people will not allow it to be normalized.

2017: make statutory language for the Spanish wording = every current .06 & .07 sign null and void. Those that posted 30.06 out of "the unknown" of the law will have an invalid sign. CC will be back in a big way.

Me 2 but for every 1 " make the best of open carry"

there are 20 "negative effects of open carry" or "more 30.06 signs" or similar posts

Many, if not most here, regarding OC, state while they won't be doing it, they support it.
I see very few anti-OC posts here, unless counting those who prefer to CC, but support OC, is counted as a negative.
It sure isn't in my eyes...

Re: Making the best of open carry
I was at first against OC mainly because I didn't (still don't) see why one would want to OC and because of a certain in your face crowd, which at the time there seemed to be some of them on this forum with in your face posts. I have only seen one OC so far, a very old man in a gun store. So, it seems I was totally wrong (at least in this area of the state) about OC people being in your face to the general public which I saw that as really hurting CC, OC and anything pertaining to 2A. There has been quite a few 07 signs going up but few 06 going up with them in this area, another point I was wrong about. So, count me in the group jumping to conclusions before the fact.

My guess is that there are two factions among the militant in-your-face OC crowd that are still not carrying handguns:jed wrote:I was at first against OC mainly because I didn't (still don't) see why one would want to OC and because of a certain in your face crowd, which at the time there seemed to be some of them on this forum with in your face posts. 1. A group that refuses to get an LTC on principle because they don't believe their rights should be licensed, feeling that giving in is a tacit legitimization of the program. Some of these are also genuinely motivated by staying off of the "government registration" radar.
2. A group that is ineligible to get an LTC due to criminal history.
I personally know somebody in each category, although they aren't part of the OC movement by any means. Both quietly support Constitutional carry for these reasons and I would assume they are representative of a population within the OC ranks. IIRC, there was a felon addressing the state Congress speaking for open carry during the last session.

Re: Making the best of open carry
Even if unlicensed carry was legal, a felon wouldn't be able to legally possess a firearm, so I don't know what he would be intending to accomplish.
Re: Making the best of open carry
There are some middle grounds for people who got deferred adjudication and would be able to Constitutionally carry but cannot obtain an LTC.
As for the felon addressing Congress, it was very confusing. He was basically saying, "Ya'll should carry because there's people like me out there."
