Voter Registration?

Post by RossA »

I have ALWAYS voted. Period, end of sentence, no exceptions.
I was checking my voter registration card yesterday and saw that it expired at the end of 2015. Normally we receive our new cards in the mail like clockwork, but haven't received anything this year. With elections coming up, I called the Harris County voter registration office and they said that some registrations had gone out late. "Don't worry, even if you don't have your card, you can still vote as long as your name is on the rolls and you have ID."
They said that they would mail out new cards to me and my wife, but I'm still uneasy.
Have others not received new voter registration cards yet? Seems strange that neither my wife nor I have received ours. It's not like just one accidentally got lost in the mail.

My wife and I got ours in the mail last week. It seems things are running a bit slow this year -- usually we get them before the old cards expire.

We're in NW Houston, if that helps.

Yep, did that and it shows that we both have new cards. Trouble is, I would like to have the actual card when I go to the polls. Seems like only illegal aliens don't need information to vote.

So I'm registered to Vote - just checked the site... apparently when I did my address change online my new address info didn't go into the Voter registration (I swear there was a check box or option to update/register to vote, which I thought I did) So I now live in Harris County, but I'm registered to my old address in League City which is Galveston. Anyone know where I need to go to in order to vote in the Primary ?

Note: I believe its too late to change it and have it go into effect for the primary, so I'll do that after the primary to make sure I don't have any trouble for the General Election.

I'd definitely do early voting if I were you. Just look up early voting locations in Galveston County.

When my wife and I moved within Harris County I updated my voter registration, but apparently we forgot hers... we just did early voting, so that she didn't have to report to our old precinct.

So if I do early voting I can vote in Harris ? I don't live in Galveston County anymore, its not that far away but not as convenient either.

Here's the website where you can fill out the voter registration: http://www.sos.state.tx.us/elections/voter/reqvr.shtml

On that page, you will see two boxes. The right one, labeled "Informal Online Application".

You will fill it out online and print it out. Then mail it to your local County Voter Registrar, who's address will be at the top of the application.

No, you will not be able to vote in the primary. You must mail the registration at least 30 days before the election.

Pawpaw,

I saw that, thats why I noted I would update my registration after the Primary. I'm still registered in TX, just currently Galveston and not Harris like its suppose to be.

No you will only be able to vote in the county that you're registered in I'm pretty sure. I'll be doing my early voting at the Clear Lake City Freeman Library, but that's Harris County.

Gotcha - I understand what you were saying about early voting now... Thought you were saying it would work for Primary Voting as well.... Might have to give it a shot, and if not then I'll go vote in my old precinct.
