Texas permit holder moving

Post by Soap »

Hypothetically if a Texas resident moved to a state that had reciprocity could they just update their address with Texas dps? If that state allowed it of course. So living out of Texas could you also renew your Texas permit?

Yes. Just be sure that state recognizes non-resident permits. Some states such as South Carolina, Florida and Colorado do not honor a permit if you are not a current resident of the state your license is from.

Using FL as an example... Since I have a FL non-resident permit. I had a FL non-res permit before I moved to TX. According to http://handgunlaw.us/states/texas.pdf , "Texas Honors Non-Resident Permits/Licenses From the States They Honor".

FL just sent me the renewal paperwork, to my TX address. For TX renewals it's even easier, since it's all done online now. Be sure to verify that the State you are moving TO will honor a non-resident license if you are a resident of that State. Keith gave you a few examples of States that do not honor non-resident permits.
