The third bulletin cracks me up.

"A CHP officer's gun was stolen from his Prius in October"

Only a San Francisco police officer would drive a Prius off duty.

Reading the other cases described in the article - all stolen from cars - and it infuriates me that our laws enable (no, require) us to do the same all too often. The most dangerous thing I do with my handgun happens right before (and right after) I do any of the following: visiting my daughter's school, voting, going to a pro ballgame, encountering a 30.06 sign at a place that I need to go to, etc.

Carry everywhere that an off duty LEO can...that's the only answer that makes sense.
Your best option for personal security is a lifelong commitment to avoidance, deterrence, and de-escalation.
When those fail, aim for center mass.

Whew.........had to read that link real quick.

My nephew is a Special Agent working in San Francisco (at present) and is notoriously absent minded about keeping up with certain items (phone, sunglasses, keys, etc).

Ever since he was a teenager (he is now 30) we have teased him about it. He is very smart, hard working, loyal, etc....but has always had trouble keeping up with personal items. As much as I love him....I would not be surprised if this happens to him one day.

He doesn't work for ICE...so it wasn't him (much to my relief). I AM going to send him this link though. Thanks for posting it.

I wonder what is CHP policy for officers carrying personal guns while off duty.

Anyone unfortunate enough to have lived in San Francisco would probably understand the 'Prius'. The City is not friendly to large vehicles. Parking is almost non-existent and where it is....a small vehicle (of some type) is the way to go.

My Daughter just finished a stint in S/F travel nursing. Her chief complaints were the traffic and lack of parking. Of course being a Texas Gal (raised in the country) she drives a big dual cab truck (not the easiest thing to park).

She was even fined $100.00 because 10" of her bumper extended into the sidewalk while her truck was parked in her own driveway! It was pulled as far forward as was possible.

That was the straw that broke the Camels back for her. She immediately applied for an assignment in SoCal (San Diego) and is there now.

The S/F police officer might be doing the only thing that makes sense there (if living in S/F makes sense at all).

Best UC ride we had while I was working was a minivan with a child seat in the back. EVERYBODY knows that no self respecting agent would be caught driving something like that (well, almost everybody knows LOL).

What kind of car is he supposed to drive?
*Disclosure I drive a "green" vehicle but don't tell anybody, k?

When people intimate I'm less of a man because my vehicle kills the planet slower than their vehicle, I tell 'em I'll drive whatever you want if you pay the note, the gas, the maintenance, and the insurance.

Just wait until someone admits they carry something besides a 1911. :boxing
