Here is an interesting story about how kids handle a situation where they find a gun.

While I could comment on the kids of people who do not own guns, I want to learn my own lesson. I am confident that my kids would leave the gun alone. But I would hope that they would either run and get someone, or at least be proactive in telling the others to put it down.
It's time to clean some guns...good time for a discussion.

Re: Experiment with kids and guns
One of the best videos I've seen for kids and showed to my kids when they were elementary school is "Gun Safety with Dan West, Accident Prevention". It was at the local library. It states that even if there are no guns in your house, kids will likely be in a house where there are guns and they need to know what to do if they find a gun. I'm not sure if it's still available or is in DVD version. Harris County library has many other gun safety videos.
