Ar-15 Truck Carry

Been considering traveling with my AR. I carry my handgun everyday but would like to add this to the daily carry I guess you could say. How do some of you guys do it? What are yalls recommendations

Well, you could always put a gun rack in your pickup...unless it's one of those 4-door types. A gun rack is really handy, and gives ready access. We had one when I was a kid. Kept a Remington M8 in .35 Remington, and a Browning A-5 in them.

Another way you can carry(which we did before I put the gun rack in), was to keep a rifle(or shotgun) in a soft rifle sleeve, and put it behind the seat.

My next purchase will be an AR and I have been looking at something like this, it is similar to what I had in the patrol cars when I was a LEO. it is electronic, with a key override.

I've considered it as well... but I fear it getting stolen. Thought about looking into some sort of trunk/gun safe but not sure how well that would work for a rifle in a 4 door Civic.

I have a 16" middy in a soft case under my back seat. I took a grommet kit from lowes and punched holes in the non-zipper side and ran zip ties to a QD key ring and then attached the other side to the seat frame. That way, it does not move side to side, or fly forward if I have to hit the brakes, but I can get the case out in just a minute or so. I leave the end of the case unzipped so all that I have to do is open the back door, reach under there and grab the buttstock and pull out and it is ready to go. Chambered, safety on... really ready to go.

It has been sitting under there for about 7 years now. Not one problem. I use a synth grease on the upper/carrier contact points and regular CLP on the bolt lugs. I take it out quarterly and relube it.

I am an independent insurance agent, and do 99% of my business in people's homes. My truck is rarely more than 30-50 feet away from me. If I had it parked in a lot in a bad part of town, I might have a locking setup. For what I need, it works great.

Mine holds my 16" carbine, 8 30-round magazines, an ACOG and an Aimpoint Micro on separate mounts, a suppressor, a sling, a couple of rags and some gun oil, with a flat pocket to keep a laminated copy of the tax stamp for the suppressor.

I don't know... I'd bet that if some ghetto goblin saw that thing they would KNOW that there was something worth stealing in it and smash your window just to give it the old "No HS diploma try".

you think it would be a disadvantage if it were to hit the fan and you have to assemble your gun in a pinch?

They could definitely do a better job of making it look more "stock".

Well, it goes without saying that the time required to deploy the gun is slowed down by having to assemble it. OTH, I can mate the upper and lower together fairly quickly, whichever optic I choose pops right on thanks to a very efficient and solid quick detach mount, and the suppressor spins on quickly too. I've never timed it, but I'm guessing that I can probably have the whole thing assembled in a minute.....a little longer to seat a magazine and charge the rifle. Your comment is instructive and tells me that I need to actually time it.

Without a doubt, it would be faster to deploy the rifle if it were cased in an actual rifle case, but then you lose the stealth appearance.
