Glock 27/26 versus Sig 239 or 232

Post by Right-Wing-Nut »

I am looking at picking up one of the aforementioned guns this weekend at the Gun Show. This is for concealed carry. I am a big Glock fan and presently own a 19 and 23. I assume the 26/27 are quite a bit easier to carry?

I also adore my Sig 229 40 and am planning to look real hard at the 239 9mm. As much as I'd hate to carry a .380 the Sig 232 looks almost the ideal size for me to lug around without feeling like I am carrying a boat anchor.

Any thoughts or suggestions between the Glock and Sigs. I also own an HKP2000 but am thinking it is a little bulky for daily carry.

Thanks.

I fired a 232 in .380 and it hurt my hand more than a Keltec P3AT. The grip felt good but it felt like a snap more than usual, take it for what its worth.

R-W-N, Welcome aboard. I have a P229/357SIG and a Glock 33. I have IWB holsters for both. Carrying the P229 is like lugging an anchor. I forget I have it on when I carry the Glock 33. My wife has a P239/40. It is less bulky than a P229 but not much lighter and it is 7+1 in capacity. I would vote for the little Glock since you have two and like them. Also if you carry a spare magazine, you can carry a G17 mag and use it in a G26.
Because you are going to a gun show, look at a Walther P99 compact with an AS trigger. It might change your mind. ;-)

My wife owns a Sig 239 and we have a few Glocks hanging around here.

The 17 is a great carry gun if you prefer a full sized gun. The G26 is more comfortable....really not much different than your 19.

The 239 is a great shooter, but capacity is very limited and it is heavy.

If I was you......I would buy a Glock 26.

Yep, welcome aboard, Rob.

Maybe a little, but not a lot - still a "brick" IMNSHO. Lots of people put the pinkie extension on 'em to "feel" better, but then they wind up having a grip about the same height as 19/23 - without the mag capacity.

Lemme know if ya wanna try my PM-9 before ya put $ in a single stack.

SIGs seem well-made and reliable, but (except for the P210) they don't fit my hand at all - no "pointability" for me. If I grip a SIG at the "ready" position, focus my eyes on something, then close them and raise the pistol until I think it's pointing at my target . . . when I open my eyes, I find that SIGs point nowhere near where they "feel" like they're pointing. (Same problem with most S&W and Ruger autos.)

I got a Glock 26 when I got rid of my Kahr P9. Glock works well (unlike the Kahr) but it isn't as neat a package . . .

If you already have a G19, you won't be gaining a heck of a lot of concealability with the G26.

Thanks for all of the feedback. Actually, I just discovered the Glock 36 on their website. I am not really a big 45ACP fan but this may be THE gun for me. If it is slim enough I'll be all over it. I wish Glock made a single-stack 9MM or 40 but I'll take a 45. I am looking very forward to checking it out.

FWIW, also being somewhat of a Glock-aholic, I ran down and bought a 36 "slimline" when they first came out. For me it was just a slightly slimmer "brick". But it did fit a couple of leather holsters for 19 and 23.

As slimness seems to be of concern, you might look into the upcoming Walther PPS, which is (or should be, anyway) a very slim and lightweight single-stack 9mm.

I don't have any problem with .380, but the Sig 232 is rather big for a .380, and my preference would be a smaller nine than the 232. On the other hand, I owned a 230 several decades ago, and it was and still is the most reliable semi-auto I've ever owned. Not a single malfuntion through close to a thousand rounds. I'm sure that the 232 would be a great weapon, if you don't mind the size.

Kahr's are thinner than the average Glock, and the all-steel Kahr's seem to have a good reputation. They are heavy though, and I think you would do just as well, if not better, with a Glock 26/27. The polymer Kahr's are kind neat though, especially the PM9 and CW9, both of which are noticeably thinner than my Glock 26. I went with Glock though because they always work. My 26 only has about 600 rounds through it, but so far it's reliability is on par with my old Sig 230. Still thinking of the PM9 though....

I agree...

I also can say that the G27 (.40) IMO is just a bit too much pop, unless you got that issue worked out...I had one, thinking I could keep my ammo purchases consistant to only a couple of calibers...I was wrong...And thinking that would be a good little pistol for my wife...She tried it and didn't like how it shot and felt to her...And she really tried to work that out to no avail...

I believe the 9mm G26 is just about the right caliber/frame size for that sub-compact type of pistol..."Baby Glocks"...They are a love/hate thing to those who have given them a go...

Good luck in your search! Thats half the fun!
