Block Letter Definition
I'm not a lawyer. Can't pretend to be one or come close to thinking like one. What is the definition of block letters? To me it is all letters the same size. Recently my workplace has posted the signs that says we are sitting ducks. The capital letters are over an inch cause I measured them with a pair of calipers, the others are not. I just wonder if the signs are in fact legal or not. Doesn't matter to me cause handbook says if I carry a gun, I might use it to create work place violence. I was wondering in case other signs else where were the same way. Most that I have seen are in all capital letters.
In certain extreme situations, the law is inadequate. In order to shame its inadequacy, it is necessary to act outside the law to pursue a natural justice.

It means "sans serif"...right?jason812 wrote:I'm not a lawyer. Can't pretend to be one or come close to thinking like one. What is the definition of block letters? Re: Block Letter Definition
The way the law reads, the letters must be at least one inch high. If all of the letters of the required text are not at least one inch in height, then I would think it is a non-compliant sign.

I am visualizing a person trying defend themselves in front of a judge arguing letter size with a pair of calipers.jason812 wrote:The capital letters are over an inch cause I measured them with a pair of calipers, the others are not.
"But Judge, the lower case letters are not 1 inch, they are 63/64s of an inch. I measured them with my NIST calibrated calipers!"
Re: Block Letter Definition
The sample sign DPS used at the instructor class was upper/lower and someone pointed out their sign was non-compliant. That got him the stink eye. No, wait, it was more the "what you talking bout, Willis?" look. I really don't think they saw any problem.
They were of the opinion that if the sign got the intent across it was good enough.

Re: Block Letter Definition
If the non-capital letters were not at least one inch, then it really wasn't compliant, but I don't think that "block" necessarily means capital or even "all the same size". The just all have to be >= 1 inch (or is that 2.54cm in Spanish?jmorris wrote:The sample sign DPS used at the instructor class was upper/lower and someone pointed out their sign was non-compliant. Now can we bring the Gun Free Safe School Zone Act into this?
