Cheaper than Dirt...

Post by stevie_d_64 »

I remember I recently (3 weeks ago or more) made an order to Cheaper than Dirt...

3 boxes of .40 (PMC)

Haven't seen it yet...

I called them, and they say they filled the order (1 box???) and shipped it via FedEx...They have no tracking number for that FedEx shipment...

This stuff was supposed to be for an IDPA match I have been wanting to shoot this weekend...hmmmm

I have to call the customer service folks at 9am to find out what the problem is...

uggg...

Anyone else have a problem with these guys like this???

Very discouraging, since this was my first order with them...They we're really easy to work with on the front end of the deal, but this has happened...

I have placed a few orders online and been in the local store and never had any problems whatsoever.

I've bought a good amount of ammo from them in the past, but I don't think I'll buy from them again. Here's why.

I use Hornady's One Shot lube and they show it on their web site with what in my opinion is a very misleading ad. They show a "Value" of $10.73, their price is $9.15, for a savings of "$1.58 (14.73%). Here's a link to their ad: http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/ctd/prod ... AJV7839F0B

However, if you go to the manufacturer's web site, you find the retail price is only $8.30, not $10.73 as implied by Cheaper-Than-Dirt. http://www.hornady.com/shop/?page=shop/ ... d=One+Shot Their "reduced" price is higher than the retail price! It's obvious why they chose to use the word "Value," rather than "retail" and I don't appreciate it. I tried to send an email to them and it bounced.

To make matters worse, you can get the same product from Midway at a regular price of $5.99 and it's currently on sale at $5.49. http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.e ... mid=438512 I won’t do business with a company that uses that type of marketing tactics.

Chas.

.40 ammo

Post by OverEasy »

FYI,
.40 S&W Blazer Brass is $7.57/50 at the Wal-Mart on 249 @ Spring Cypress.
The PMC I saw at CTD was $9.80/50. I've shot both in a SIG P239 with no problem. Different Wal-Marts charge different prices according to the competition in the area.

slightly off topic but that Blazer Brass 40 at Walmart has a problem. It's not crimped worth a flip and I have had several incidences of bullet setback with it already. This was caused simply by ther pressure on the bullet going up the feedramp.
probably not an issue in most guns but in a 40 Glock with an unsupported chamber it could be a BIG problem.

I called them and found out they shipped the order on the Tuesday after the Friday I ordered it...

Instead of the three boxes I ordered, they shipped one box via FedEx and it never got to me...They don't even have the shipping number to track the order from FedEx...

They also said they sent me a letter telling me they accreditted my account for the two boxes they didn't ship...Never got that letter...

They told me a little while ago they'd refill the full order at the price of the two boxes I didn't get and ship it tomorrow...It'll arrive Saturday...They say...

We'll see how this goes...

They told me if the other box that shipped originally shows up..."Merry Christmas!"

I just hope I got enough FMJ for the match Saturday at PSC...

Cheaper ....

Post by longtooth »

I get catalogs from Midway & Graf & Sons. Both are cheaper than Cheaper than dirt on anything I have ever been able to compare prices on. Several times I have put the 3 catalogs together & literally everything that was in Midway or Graf's was cheaper. On line catalogs at http://www.midway.com & http://www.grafs.com. Never had a problem w/ either & have spent more w/ both than I really care for the wife to know sometimes.

Dang, That is outright misleading.

The two orders that I've done throught them went off just fine, but that some time ago.

I didn't think FedEx delivered to residential customers on Saturdays. At least that is what I've always been told.

CTD sometimes has some milsurp "stuff" that you won't find elsewhere, and that's the only reason I read their catalogs.

For anything where CTD offers a lower price, you can bet they'll make it up in shipping & handling charges. Total price to your door is no cheaper (and sometimes more expensive) than other suppliers.

And then there's their whole obsession with Texas knife laws, even though they've had it explained to them time and time again. I once missed out on an excellent buy on a Swiss 1918 bayonet for my K-31, because they wouldn't ship to Texas. No problem, I placed the order as a gift to my mother in Arkansas. A few days later, I got an email that the bayonet was not included in the shipment, because the address on my credit card is in Texas. And by then, they were sold out, anyway.

I'm begining to believe they are a bit to much to hope for...

Hopefully FedEx will get my ammo to me "Saturday"...Like CTD says will happen...

I will definitely be looking for alternate sources for "stuff", for now...

CTD & freight

Post by longtooth »

I agree on the freight. All Graff prices are at your door in the lower 48. Even when others are a few cents cheaper the freight they charge makes up more than the difference. I have found on the Mil. surplus stuff that my local Army Navy store is cheaper & the one here is known for being higher than others around. I just can't find anything I call a deal in their cats.

Grafs

Post by longtooth »

Absolutely. There has also been some times that I had Q's about a product & knew the facts about what they sold. They are my 1st look when I need something. If they don't have it then Midway is my 2nd choice.

Do you have a web site for Graff? I am having trouble locating one.

+1 on Midway. I've bought a lot of merchandise through them. Usually do well with Cabellas, too.
