Anytime, anywhere...CHL helps

Post by govnor »

It's interesting how a CHL can help you even in your own home. I don't see this talked about much, but it is true.

Some of you guys have read about my neighbor problems. I don't know if I deserve it or if I was born under a bad sign or what, but of two houses I've purchased, I have had exactly two nightmare neighbors. I'm a good neighbor. I don't make noise, I don't complain about almost anything. In fact, I've never complained to a neighbor about anything but loud music that I can hear inside of my home. If I have a party, which is about twice a year...everyone stays in the house.

After going through my nightmare in Dallas with the recent immigrants that threatened to kill me for calling the police on their all night long tejano blasting parties, I moved to nice, quiet Bedford.

Little did I know, I moved in next door to other fairly recent immigrants that also like to party all the time. This involves the hip hop music starting in the backyard at about 7:00pm, every day. You can hear it across the street in the front of the house. You can also hear it clearly in my bedroom. I'm sorry, but I work my rear end off for a living. That's not what I want to hear when I get home from a hard days work.

So after talking to the local PD here for a few months and calling the police a LOT. The Bedford PD, God bless them, have put a stop to it. What that means now is that when me or my wife come home we have to face the next door neighbors down. They look angry. They hate me for standing up for my rights. They have big, scary people standing there with them. Yeah, that's not what I thought I was buying into in a nice, quiet suburb like this, but the point is that anything can happen anywhere. Yes, I'm on the good side of Bedford, right next door to Colleyville.

Unfortunately at this point I don't have a CHL. I'm in limbo right now. My woman doesn't either, so I make her carry mace. She'd rather carry a gun and we're working on that, but it takes time. We have problems right NOW. I've taken some of yall's advice and I carry my .12 guage instead of my pistol with me in the truck. It's in a case, but I have easy access to it from the front of the house, to the inside of my house. At home, I carry all the time anyway.

Being afraid your neighbors will attack you is not normal. It didn't used to be this way. Well, this is the way it is now. Believe it. I've been through it twice now and it's going on as we speak.

They also taunt my dog from across the fence. I almost walked out there with my double barrel the other day. The only thing she barks at is them...

That sucks. Don't be afraid though, I bet they're harmless.

You know you can carry a long gun in your car plus to and from the house. AR-15 shorty with 30 rd clip should work well. Remington 870 riot gun with 7 shot mag would also work.

Permimeter cameras and alarm system would help also.

If the county DA is obeying the law you can also carry your pistol / revolver in the car as long as it is covered, as of September 1st a new law takes effect which allows you to carry in your car despite these scofflaw DA's.

If you use the AR-15 the Winchester 64gr Power point ammo gives good penetration and expansion on deer, should work on your imigrants if it comes down to it.

The 870 with 2 3/4" baby mags in #1 buckshot will give you 20 .30 cal pellets per load. If you get the model with sights the slugs are effective to 80yds or so. If you are worried about over penetration a baby magnum load of BB's will work great but not penetrate houses.

Good luck!

I'm carrying a winchester defender with two pistol grips and 00 buck. I have an AR-15, but I'd worry about the rest of the neighbors if I had to use it. I also have a hard wired security system. I haven't bought cameras yet, but I'm considering it.

I wouldn't say harmless, but maybe they're scared to do anything because the police will come arrest them.

A guy I heard about in Euless was dealing with this same group of people and doing the same thing. Calling the police on loud parties all the time. Four of them jumped him when he came home from work once. I don't know what happened after that or if they got the people that did it. I don't have any good places for people to hide around my house though...

There was a thread about home automation. Check it out, there's some good ideas (one of which is mine  ) that might help you, too.

I checked that out and there were some good ideas. I might do the camera thing at least.

+1 on the AR

We used to have a very quiet block too. Then we were fortunate to get a house full of "undesirables" a couple of doors down from me. Everyone in town knows that they are running dope out of there (even the police)....but yet they stay. I have sent NRH P.D. down there several times, after which they generally stop by my house and shoot the breeze for a while. So I'm sure this puts me at the top of their "favorite neighbor" list!

So nowdays...the thugz on my block get to see me rack my AR in the pickup every morning (if they are still awake) and carry it in every evening. I also carry my Maxpedition Bug out Bag, with a 5.5" Chris Reeves Knife lashed to the side of it. I'm not really the gun wielding psychopath type, but I'm OK with them thinking I'm a little crazy, ya know!! ;)

They have taken note, and made several "don't mess with that guy" type comments......which is perfectly fine with me!!

Really? You actually let them get a glimpse of your AR! I've thought about doing stuff like that too, but it would freak the rest of the neighbors out. Not that I really care since they aren't doing anything to help me with this situation. I also have a Maxpedition, but have to wait until I get the CHL to put it to good use...

I clean my guns on the back porch, in sight of the windows of half a dozen houses. No one has ever said anything.

They're all long-time Texans and know better.

Maybe someday I'll get a yuppie neighbor and give them something to get excited about. I can imagine the conversation:
911: State the nature of the emergency.
Yuppie: There's a man with a gun next door.
911: Is he shooting?
Yuppie: Not yet.
911: Is he threatening anyone?
Yuppie: No.
911: Is he pointing it at anyone?
Yuppie: No.
911: What do you want us to do?
The cops might stop by within 48 hours if they're not busy. I know some of them from the range.

"Mystery is the forefather of cowardice" -- Stevie-D

This personal revelation/quote fits to this situation like a "T"!

Even though I fully understand the satisfaction in letting the unruly see "what ya got for them"...I personally would rather them "think" it may not be a good idea to do anything in retribution to you and your property...

Smile, be a good nieghbor to everyone on the block, rise above their petty disrespect for everyone else...Make sure they know you can very well have a better hole card than they could ever hallucinate in their wildest imaginations...

It may be easier said than done, but I think everyone (here) does realize that people (nieghbors) who conduct themselves in this manner are basically cowards, and that their protests will fall on deaf ears most of the time...Just don't give them a megaphone in the process...Right???

It's a difficult call.

There are two people in the less desirable neighborhoods in Galveston who have stood up to the local thugs. They have variously had threatening phone calls, arson attempts, and missing pets.

It's not that is is brandished or anything....I carry it daily and it is unceremoniously transferred back and forth to my personal vehicle as part of my regular routine. This only adds to the mystery, as you say, because none of the "Thug Crew" have any idea what I actually do for a living. I have lived on the same street for better than a decade, as have most of the other families, so they are familiar with my employment, and routine......so it's business as usual to them.

It certainly is...And folks like us are very capable of dealing with certain issues like this...

Threatening phone calls don't bother me too much...I'll let you talk yourself silly (all you want) into that hole without any problem...

If they are stupid enough to ratchet the situation up another notch...Thats their bad call...

Arson attempts and messing with someones pets are again, acts of cowards, and if you catch them in the act...Well, we should know the law and how it applies and governs our actions at that point...

I believe in the long run cooler heads (ours) will prevail, and it ususlly won't come close to you having to move, or having to make some other drastic decision...

Was watching a video on the internet showing Marines testing various weapons against houses and or barricaded bad guys. The .223 hardbal would not penetrate bricks or cynder blocks unless using a belt fed weapon and you chewed a hole through the wall. AK-47 ammo, .308 ball and anything bigger went through like a hot knife through butter. Over penetration is not a major concern with the .223.

Wood frame houses just made all the bullets bigger as they came through.

Word back from the Mid East is that the .223 ball and 9mm ball are not working that well for belly rubbing distances. .45 and .308 weapons are being used in greater and greater numbers. That is why i suggested the 64gr power points as I have shot deer with these and they are effective within 150yds or so. They will penetrate both shoulders creating a decent wound channel.

The cameras can be sent to a web based serever and you can check it from any place you have web access to see what is going on. It will also record for 30 days and make a backup of the recordings if you wish.

Hope you neighbors learn to leave you alone.
