Don't get caught with one anywhere... I don't believe they are legal...

(16) "Zip gun" means a device or combination of
devices that was not originally a firearm and is adapted to expel a
projectile through a smooth-bore or rifled-bore barrel by using the
energy generated by an explosion or burning substance.

§ 46.05. PROHIBITED WEAPONS. (a) A person commits an
offense if he intentionally or knowingly possesses, manufactures,
transports, repairs, or sells:
...
(9) a zip gun.

Glad it is not illegal to want one.

Based solely on letter of the law that you have submitted here, what if I make something in my garage starting with just plain old metal? Then, it was originally a gun and hence forth, does not meet the definition of a zip gun.

If Kimber can use a lathe, so can I :-)

While I was at TSA we received a warning about these, the x-ray of one is very characteristic of a firearm, four barrels in this case, and if loded the bullets show up very well.

Anyone who tries to go thru a checkpoint with any illegal kind of firearm deserves to be shot with it.

These aren't zip guns. They'd be classified by ATF as Any Other Weapon, the same as cane guns, wallet guns, or briefcase guns.

That video and pictures have been around several years. I'm pretty sure the first reports of Eastern European "cell phone guns" pre-date 9/11.
