carrying at the Alamo

carrying at the Alamo
Years ago, I carried at the Alamo, but was in a full suit, just having been in church. I did not see the sign, and was not asked by any security if I was carrying. I had my CHL and was carrying my 4" 29 in an IWB holster. Of course, I am 6', 250 lbs. I guess that I looked like an LEO off duty. In my group, I was the only one carrying. I guess the suit fooled them. I have also carried my 29 in the IWB #3 by Kramer under a polo shirt and have had no problems.

I was under the impression that the State of Texas owned the Alamo, and that the Daughters of the Texas Revolution "only" took care of it. Thus CHL carry could not be legally. So I went to the Alamo's official (I presume) website, and found this on their FAQs page:
Aha. So I rummaged around some more on the site and found this on their Rules and Regulations page [emphasis added]:

I have not been to the Alamo in awhile, so I don't know if their practice is in line with their rules (and the law), but I have been there in the last five years, I am sure I had my license and handgun, and I do not recall noticing any signs or other verbiage. Next time I am down that way I will look.

The Alamo is owned by the State of Texas and operated by the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. Although many believe that Alamo is only the church, or Shrine, it is actually a 4.162 acre complex composed of original structures dating back to the mission period, a gift museum, a library, meeting hall, support facilities, and gardens. .3. WEAPONS: The unlicensed carry of firearms or possession of other instruments, devices, or substances designed or intended to cause injury, death, or property damage is prohibited. Weapons used for educational purposes, displays, ceremonies, or historical reenactments are permitted on the complex, but are subject to inspection and restrictions specified in the Alamo Policy on Alcohol, Drugs, and Weapons
