I bought 1400 rounds today at various Walmart's around the area. Cleaned 3 stores out completely of CCI .40. I bought additional boxes of 9mm, .357 and 38 specials until the bank account yelled uncle. Going to purchase more on Friday. I want to have enough on hand for at least 6 months of all calibers. Reloading equipment is on the horizon.
Well, I just skipped that step and went to reloading, shot my first rounds of reloads last sunday.
If you ask here for advice you'll good recommendations. I built my whole set up around advice from the reloading forum.
Your first tip, SAVE ALL THAT BRASS you just paid for, you'll want ever bit of it the scound you unpack that press!!!.

I bought 1000 rounds of 9mm a couple of weeks ago, then another 1000 of the same Saturday. I plan on another 1000 next payday, which happens to be the 31st...
I figure that should last me a little while, I only shoot maybe 300 rounds when I go to the range, so I should be good for 10 trips. This should give me time to get into reloading a little at a time...
<---looking for the reloading forum...FOUND IT!!

The ammo prices are the reason I got into reloading.
Reloading components, however, are going up as well.
I bought what I could at the gun show Saturday as far as haz-mat items; I'm spent out, especially considering that a car purchase is required in the near future.
I'm trying to slowly load up a stash for the closet.

Should I start saving my 9MM brass? 6 months ago none would bother.

I've bought about all I can afford right now, dang car payments and mortgage,
I'm going to get my reloading gear out of storage and start rolling my own again.

I thought about that for some time. I pretty much just shot aluminum CCI Blazer, cheap and works great. But I started buying brass 9mm, just to save down the road.Liberty wrote:Should I start saving my 9MM brass? 6 months ago none would bother.
I also picked up about 3000 primed 9mm cases from http://www.wideners.com. Just 'cause.

I just bought 4,250 rounds in the last month or so of the three calibers that I shoot most, 7.62x54r, 7.62x39, and .40 S&W. I have seen ammo prices inflate greatly or supplies disappear all together recently. No matter what happens in the next few months, I still wanted to have enough range supply for the next 5 to 10 years and I believe ammo will still continue to appreciate after the new year, well into the future.
Basically, the market forces that are putting pressure on ammo prices are only going to increase in severity in the forseeable future, not lessen. These forces would be increased demand for raw materials (copper, etc.) from developing countries (China, etc.), the depreciating Dollar, as well as demand for ammo from global hot spots.

Anyone ever thought about doing a Reloading Co-op of some kind.
Several members, friends get together and load 9mm on this day and then maybe a month or two later get together an load 40 S&W.
Everyone saves brass. Meaning that everyone in the Co-Op should save all their spent brass for reloading.
Cost of primers, powder, bullets spilt between members that need that particular caliber.
Maybe even spliting the cost of the equipment if needed?
Just thinking outloud.
