slide stop plunger
Come on boys, 'fess up. I have 5 1911 pattern pistols, love 'em all, but that slide stop plunger is a pain--as indicated by the amount of idiot marks on other wise mint 1911's.

I've adapted to the plunger. It just takes time and finagling to get it "right."
My carry gun, a Springfield Champion, has all kinds of wear, nicks, dings, and scratches on it, including lead smears on the slide (?) - no idea where the lead came from, by the way. But it doesn't have any clearly discnernable "half-moon" or "idiot mark" under the slide stop.
It takes practice. I always make replacement of the slide stop a 2-part operation; first get the pin through the barrel link (with stop lug sticking down next to the trigger guard), then adjust and rotate the slide stop into position. This allows me to get it lined up just right with the slide stop plunger so that it goes right in, no fuss, no muss.
