Please help Identify Springfield 1911 model

After calling Patti at SA customer service she told me this pistol was an Omega but it says "Defender Model" on the left side and "Springfield Armory"on the right. She stated that it must be aftermarket but it doesnt look so and there is another on Gunbroker in another state just like it. I need some parts for it but cant seem to get them to figure out what it is. The front sight is bent but it slides out from the front, not the side like all other 1911's. I also need an extractor but I think it is normal. I have a feeling their records are wrong and I have found no info on the web about this pistol. All Omega searches turn up a Peter Stahl pistol in 10mm. SN is NM65542.

Thats what I tried telling Springfield but she insisted it wasnt. Kept saying the defender is a compact, which there is now. but not in 1990 or so.

Those old Springfields have really ugly rear sights and "DEFENDER" on the slide but they are just plain old 1911's and 1911 parts fit. I don't recall whether I've seen one with a compensator or not but that's not going to change anything.

This is a modified Springfield Armory .45 that is used in IPSC/USPSA competition. Springfield did put out the Defender Model in the early 90's and that is what this probably started out as. The thing at the end of the barrel is a compensator that helps keep down muzzle flip. The front sight is mounted on the comp so you get a more static sight picture, meaning the sight does not move as much as it would if it was mounted on the slide. The grip safety and the sights are after market, the sights look like Wichita or Bomars which are nice and are fairly high end.

It is nice gun, that was state of the art in IPSC Shooting about 17 years ago, but still a nice gun. It is a custom job and you should talk to a gunsmith that specializes in IPSC guns.

i bought off of gunbroker for $500. It is very accurate still but someone did a butcher polish job on the throat and feed ramp. Hazard of buying online is you cant see this stuff. The comp isnt part of the barrel but I cant tell how to seperate the two. trigger feels "scratchy" but can probably be cleaned up. Gun was very dirty when i got it so it might just need a detail strip.
