RIP

Hawaii is an island where guns are illegal except for local police. Visiting Police Officers must surrender their guns upon entry. Not sure about visiting Federal Officers.

You can own firearms in Hawaii, but severely restricted.
I have recently visited a gun store in Hawaii, Kauai to be specific, just to look.
I don’t think there would be gun stores there if ownership was not allowed.

Prayers for the fallen and wounded officers.

I dont know that your information is accurate.

LEOSA

The Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act (LEOSA) is a United States federal law, enacted in 2004, that allows two classes of persons—the "qualified law enforcement officer" and the "qualified retired or separated law enforcement officer"—to carry a concealed firearm in any jurisdiction in the United States, regardless of state or local laws.

"5. These permits are extremely difficult to obtain. We have been advised that the County Police Departments will not approve a license for any reason."

I was incorrect, after doing all the things that are required you can get a specific permit to purchase a gun. The gun has to be at your home, either locked up or on your person, but it can be loaded. To take it to the range, to a hunt, to the police or to a gun smith, it must be unloaded and in a separate locked box from the ammunition which also must be locked up.

Hawaii does not acknowledge that Federal law can supersede their local laws LEOSA included.
