A year or so ago, I had occasion to call the Police regarding an automobile that has been sitting against the curb in my residental area, idleing. I did not recognize the vehicle as belonging to any neighbor. It had breen sitting there idleing for about two hours and, among other things, I was concerned about carbon monixide poisoning for the sleeping driver.

The Police responded quickly, sleeping driver awakened, and arrested. I do not know the nature of the arrest.

Less than a month later, two tires were slashed. Still later, automobile glass was broken. Maybe the guy's life was spared. If so, he showed a strange way to express his thanks.

Is there any way that a report can be made without leaving a 'trail' back to the original notification to the local PD?

You can call from a pay phone.

However, many pay phones are in view of a security camera. People who phone in threats and false reports are sometimes caught that way.

The police normally do not tell suspects who reported them. It might come out in a trial, but that would not occur a month or two after arrest.

What happened to you might have been a coincidence.

I remember that discussion vaguely...Sorry the apparent retribution has occured...Personally I don't think its that guy doing that to you...How could he possibly know it was you that called it in???

I would also not change one bit about what how observant and active you are in voicing concerns like you did...

Reports are Public Information. If there was an arrest, (there was) and a lawyer was involved, surely someone would have requested a copy of the complaint and that would have revealed who initiated the Police involvement.

Random stuff does indeed happen. 'Random' gets more credit than he deserves. In this case, I don't think random was involved at all.

If you call from a cell phone, they will have your number, but not your name unless you give it to them. You can also ask to remain anonymous. The police usually respect that. If you call from your home phone, they know exactly who called.

It's weird that you would face retribution for that. People are jerks though.
