You just did. Nothing is private online.
Except for the fact that you don't have a clue who I am. You may think you do, but you don't.
Finding an IP address (even on a private board) isn't hard for those who know how....

...BTW, I don't know how. But I know people who do....
Because the internet itself was built the way it was, your IP address is pretty much public and is included as a header in every packet of information you send. Now getting the IP address to correspond to a physical location, and then to a particular person, is a little harder, but not much.

People can hide if they know how. Easiest way is with non-registered devices such as iPods or iPads using public wifi.

The internet harvests whatever you do on it.

And that's just the commercial world...

If you're concerned about being scrutinized, you may want to stop using FB, twit-r, goog, visiting gun related forums, and certainly don't buy anything from Brownells or Gunbroker - or just quit worrying.

Better yet, get off the internet altogether.

Put your internet access devices into one of those car compactors, move and legally change your name.

Walk or bicycle - don't own a car or a house.

Consider living in a cave.

Use cash or the barter system, no plastic.

Walk with a limp, wear sunglasses even at night, grow a beard, or glue one on, always wear a cap, speak with a vague accent.

Perhaps, with this effort, big brother will eventually forget about you, but probably not...

One advise, if you start harden your communication or try some "cloaking" on-line, be warned you would be on the black-hole list!
Scrutiny goes up a factor of 100X

.....and, after doing all that, the gov't can still send a drone to blow up your mud hut.

The CHL community needs more positive publicity like this.
