I'm with you on that. I don't think that escalating the penalty from life in prison to death makes any difference for anyone who is willing to shoot an officer. But as we've discussed before, having a death penalty in a flawed justice system means that we will execute a small number of good guys in the process of executing a large number of bad guys.
