I'm with you on that. I don't think that escalating the penalty from life in prison to death makes any difference for anyone who is willing to shoot an officer. And their life is just as valuable as mine.
But as we've discussed before, having a death penalty in a flawed justice system means that we will execute a small number of good guys in the process of executing a large number of bad guys.

The war on drugs is stupid. I rarely call things stupid, but in this case it's appropriate.

People will buy drugs until the end of time. Why send that money to a drug cartel? Do we do this so the ATF can sell them guns? I believe we could knock out the "War on Poverty" at the same time. War on Poverty 1964, 37 Million. War on Poverty 2011, 46 Million. Another failed "Socialist War" nearly 50 years later.

The State loves drugs. It gives them cause to harass & criminalize the Citizens and keep the Judicial System in business. If there were no "problems" who would need the State at all? How can we insert Federal Authority (DEA) into local Law Enforcement?

Legalize Drugs and a new Multi-Billion-Dollar Industry inside the borders of the United States would be created instantly. Oh the horrors of a free Society running amuck doing as they please without the "help" of the State.

We now have a dead American LEO and an American Citizen charged with murder, and possibly linked directly to just one of gods many plants growing freely in Nature that has been Outlawed by the State. The State outlawing Nature. How crazy is that?
Amen to all of that.

The problem is that it's getting more and more difficult to not do anything illegal, and more and more crimes seem justify militaristic response.

I meant that to apply to crimes that would rise to the level of a police/swat assault on my premises. I am more than certain they aren't going to kick my door down over speeding. I don't find it difficult at all to abide by the law.

I agree that it can seem easy at times to break minor laws but for the most part, no way in heck would I ever believe it was a real cop kicking my door down.

Not only is that the proper decision, they should also have to pay him for pain, suffering, stress and all his legal bills.

Another strike against the use of no knock warrants. Sorry for the deputy but I agree with the grand jury.

I really wish I could see the evidence and hear the testimony presented to that grand jury.

I am sorry for the death of the deputy. I hope that his department will learn from this tragic situation.

IMHO, the jury rendered the correct decision and unjust, outdated marijuana laws are responsible for the officer's tragic death.
