City sponsored 4th of July celebration

Post by Richbirdhunter »

Can you carry at a city park? The website says no weapons ( guns or knives) I haven't seen a 30.06 sign.

Yes you can carry in a city park as per Texas Statue, Local Government Code LGC §229.001:

LGC §229.001. FIREARMS; EXPLOSIVES. (a) A municipality may not adopt
regulations relating to the transfer, private ownership, keeping, transportation,
licensing, or registration of firearms, ammunition, or firearm supplies.
(b) Subsection (a) does not affect the authority a municipality has under another
law to:
.
.
.
(6) regulate the carrying of a firearm by a person other than a person licensed
to carry a concealed handgun under Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government
Code, at a:
(A) public park;

I carry at all Arlington city parks, and don't give it a second thought. You are good to go. ;-)

Watching the local news in Houston last night, they had segments on the fireworks show down in Eleanor Tinsley Park. Every time the reporter closed the segment (maybe 4 times over 2 hours), she said, "and remember, no food and no guns" (her emphasis).

Every time she said something, my face:

Make sure the park is not part of COE controlled property like many parks are in Denton County. If so, carry is a no no unfortunately.

Yes Sir, very restrictive to us outdoor type people, and to others of course. Park Rangers can't even carry. Just makes zero sense.

They would if they could, but that COE nonsense is federal so the solution has to happen at that level.
